Foot and Ankle Rehabilitation

Post-operative rehabilitation performed by an experienced physiotherapist and monitored by your treating surgeon

A surgery of the ankle or foot requires, once the healing period has been respected, a specific and thorough rehabilitation.

This rehabilitation will allow you to regain the joint mobility and muscle strength necessary to resume walking without limping or pain.

In coordination with Dr. Schramm, a therapeutic protocol adapted to each operation or syndrome has been developed as a team to most effectively restore your foot and ankle to normal.

Initially, the rehabilitation will be rather manual:

  • lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling
  • working on joint range of motion passively
  • scar management to improve its trophicity and limit adhesions
  • explanation and learning of the right actions to take on a daily basis.

In the next phase, rehabilitation will become more active:

  • weight-bearing mobility exercises for the ankle/foot
  • muscle strengthening exercises for the ankle/foot and then overall by reintegrating the entire operated lower limb
  • gait training
  • proprioception (balance exercises to enhance muscular alertness)

Re-athletization will then allow the movement to be reintegrated into sports practice on a case-by-case basis.
